Hi, Does anyone else have poor experiences from Discover leisure.
We bought a Pennine pathfinder from their Darlington branch last August and within 2 weeks it was in their workshop for repairs to the water supply for over 3 months !!.
When it was returned and due to the winter it was stored until March this year. upon checking it following the winter we discovered that some of the work they had claimed to have done was clearly not complete.
They at first denied they had not completed the work , claiming that it would have been tested before returning to me.
Eventually they accepted responsibility and parts were ordered.
Parts still not here and horrendously poor communication from the branch with all my communications being with their head office now. Lots of false promises.
I know Dicover and Pennine dont appear to get on but the parts are not necessarily pennine parts so their should be no delay
I have now had the camper for 9 months during which time nearly 5 months have been spent not fully complete and working.
Has anyone else experienced problems with Discover ?
Would also be interested to hear peoples views on how to handle the situation ?
We were in Discover at Birtley Co Durham and on the A68 on Monday looking to renew some of our accessories, thought both places were very poor, Birtley had a poor display (although work was ongoing) and A68 had more floor space taken up by clothing looked more like a sports shop, wont be going back to those two places. Went down to Ropers and Catterick Caravans and got what we wanted.
We bought a van from them in Somerset a while back. It came with a warranty but they never could provide the warranty document because they were waiting for documents from their new service provider.
The manager wrote to me to say the warranty would continue until they provided the document. 18months later they have not provided the document. I still have the letter- its still under warranty.
When we bought the van they repaired in minor leak in the rear roof vent without quibble and a tap was frost damaged. They replaced this also free of charge.
They closed all their branches here in the south, leaving many of us without a dealer. Their service was not good and neither was the work done when we had our van serviced.
I would not buy a tent peg from them and I find it difficult to believe that they are still in business. Avoid!!!!
The company is in serious financial difficulties after borrowing a lot of money to expand, just before the "credit crunch". They lost around £17 million last year. They laid off a load of staff, closed poorly performing stores & slashed the number of lines they sold. The one at Darlington when it was Barrons used to have loads of FCs & TTs on display, now hardly any. The one at Birtley was brilliant when it was Tyneside Caravans, now a shadow of its former self. Hope you get the camper sorted before they go bust.
Yes we have had much the same experience with discover leisure at Delamere. We bought a used caravan from them in Otober 2009. and were told that the caravan would be valeted and serviced for us. On the day we picked it up we found the cooker in a terrible mess the toilet was disgusting and the fridge freezer had obviously not been cleaned. We have had numerous problems and keep having to chase them up. their customer service is non existant. and quite frankly i think they keep fobbing us off. i bought from Discover because they are advertised in the caravan club magazine and this did reasure us. But now having experienced their rubbish customer service would not buy from them again. and would advise anyone thinking of buying from them to think twice. I am sure ther are some very good caravan dealers out there more deserving of your custom.
We had a bit of trouble with Discover too last year.bought a Conway Crusader off them and some bits were missing. (we weren't the only customers this happened too either!) In the end the very nice people at Pennine sorted it all out for us (there is a reason they don't get on with Discover!) We bought our brand new Crusader for a knock down price when they wre selling a lot off. Sales advice and service wise I would think twice about buying anything off them...and the salesman who served us was so rude I complained about him.

You are wasting your time complaining. Gets you absolutely nowhere.
I can't believe people still deal with them particularly manufacturers who must be worried that their bills won't be paid.
Hi,I have just bought a 2007 Pennine Fiesta folding camper from Discover at Burtree (Darlington).
The water supply pipe was disconnected at both ends under the sink, so flooded the camper.
Discover say they will repair the leak under warranty but I am wondering if it would be better not to take it back to them, but to pay to get it sorted somewhere else.
The other problem is that the battery has been removed and so far it has been impossible to find a leisure battery which will fit the small and strangely shaped battery compartment. Has anyone any ideas?
slightly of topic Caeses outdours supplied our battery for our fiesta, it fitted perfectly without altering, I would think any other folding camper dealer must be able to supply you one.
I wouldn't touch the Delamere branch with a barge pole - we bought a brand new Elddis last August 2009 - No fuses, missing mattress, no curtain hooks, Manual was a download from the internet and put in a tatty A4 binder with some one's name on, no certificates. They wouldn't give me a free Number plate for the van and I wasn't going to pay another £12 after paying £14k for the van - so the clever Salesman sellotaped a piece of cardboard to the van, wrote the car reg on it in felt tip and it took 2 hours to get the sodding marks off the van when we got it home!!!!!! - TOTALLY POOR - DO NOT GO THERE!!!!!! It took until the end of Feb to get the mattress - they never ordered it till end of Jan (having told me that they had) by which time I was totally fed up. One Sunday afternoon in January I went up there and had to march them around the site until I got the fuses for the hot water/heating system from another caravan. Every issue was always blamed on the Service team. I did get some help from the the Manager at the Darlington branch after going over to their stand at the NEC and to be fair to him he did get things moving. We fell out with the caravan and have now traded it in for another - but not from them. Elddis - WAKE UP AND CHECK THESE CLOWNS OUT!!
Update. Parts arrived last week and fitted ok, only to find that Discover had fitted the wrong bulk head water connectors , so still unable to have a fully working camper.
Another argument and again they accept responsibilty and camper returned to them today at my request so that they can hopefully finish the job they started last september and return to me a fully working camper.
They have told me it will be all working and ready for me to collect on friday !!
Given that any parts in the past they have ordered from pennine average about 6 weeks to arrive ( so they say) i am not building my hopes just yet.
What an absolute joke this outfit is and i would strongly disuade anyone from using the Darlington outfit, on each occasion i have been i have had to wait whilst they deal with other irate customers first.

It is not just the Darlington branch, they are all the same!!!
On a positive note, they do turn work away. I had my camper serviced there once when it was Barrons, to be told by Discover that they wouldn't do it. I'm pleased really now the facts are known.
