Hi all, wasn't sure if i should post this in this section or the towing section, however would appreciate any advice. When towing (pennine pathfinder) the nose of the unit always appears to be to slightly to high. I'm towing using a Ford Focus (2003). The company who fitted the tow bar (witter) informed me that the nose weight for this vehicle/tow bar is 50kg and therefore i always aim to be around this figure. I note in the hand book it says that the unit should either be level or slightly nose down and now I'm always conscious of the nose height issue and makes me slightly on edge when towing as ours is nose up. I've even tried fully loading up the boot etc when towing to see if this helps but to no avail. Any ideas ?

Thanks Mike

Hi

My Dh said are you loading the inside to the back as this will alter the tilt of the camper he said the awning is the main culprit as its heavy he loads ours over the axel in the middle. Just an idea.

Jo

level the trailer with jocky wheel (use spirit level on side of trailer) mesure height of tow hitch.mesure height of tow ball if trailer is alot lower you may have to fit a plate to the tow ball to lower.if they are about the same look again at the way you load the trailer.

Be very wary about using plates to lower towballs. These can only be used on towbars that are built to take them. Used on an unauthorised towbar and your insurance will be void.

My focus tow hitch is high compared to the last car, also a focus, but an estate. I have a simple alko hitch so I have fitted a spacer with longer bolts.(The bolts should be at least as good as the originals). Drop plates are no longer legal in most cases, due to type approval.
