I took advantage of a rare ray of sunshine yesterday & got the awning poles out for my newly aquired combicamp 400. They obviously hadan't had the TLC required as they were in a bit of a sorry state, but a can of wd40 & much puzzling later I managed to get them into an awning shape/size structure. BUT I seem to have some extra poles!!!!
Is there anyone who can give me an idea of what goes where? I have assembled a structure that has 3 poles lenghtwise that hook on the combi, 1transverse pole connecting these 3 which the front legs attach to. This makes about the right size & shape (I think) but have 2 short poles, & 2 shortish thinner poles unaccounted for!
I have just thought again (I know , careful). But on one of my previous combis I had a small cubicle in the corner of the awning made up of two short for the top and one leg for the corner I presumed at the time that it was for a toilet cubicle or hanging storage etc.
I've got the three poles for the overhang. I looked again thismorning & the two short go together on a spring link and one end has holes for a little button, so must fit somewhere! Maybe it is a porch - the two thinner ones go together too & are obviously a leg of some sort. Maybe I'll have to wait until I can get the awning up.
If it does have a side porch how does that work? None of my spare poles have anything to connect to! However the awning does have three extra panels that zip plus a mud wall that appears to velcro on somewhere.
Well managed to get the awning up over half term, which fitted the frame I'd constructed! Still got the spare poles tho.! Unfortunately the awning had been put away wet in a previous life and had a streak of mildew along the roof with a couple of small tears in the fabric. I've treated the mildew as per conways advice and have been trying to get hold of a canvas repair kit. Everywhere I've tried has been sold out due to the windy summer & I was told that they're not being made anymore??? Anyone else had any problems?
Eventually I got a swatch of canvas given to me by the camping shop in Eastbourne (sorry don't know the name but its in Seaside) who were really helpful & I wanted to give them a mention. Everywhere else I went just said no sorry.
Anyway so I'm all patched, waterproofed & ready to go!! Just need the season to change now!!
