We currently have a 6 man dome style tent around 7.5m long so quiet big etc... we are looking to in to trailer tents but not sure the advantages of them. We are expecting our 1st child this year so next year maybe interesting going camping with our two dogs. So the question is a trailer tent worth going for? I know we could go for a caravan but its the cost of storage I don't like.
we went the tt way mainly because we were already towing a trailer with all our stuff in so it made sence to have one.now we have one we love it for it's space and comfort plus we leave all our kit in it so we only have to pack food and clothes and we are off.
depends on the unit really one like ours yes.in the kitchen we have all the cooking stuff plus plates and so on.in the main unit we have the side lockers witch we keep sleeping bags, pillows, curtains ,lights,games hoover,extra suitcase cookers and so on.then in the footwell we have folding larder unitx2, day tent, sun canopy,chairs x6,tablex2 and so on plus we leave the beds made up.
We have a 5 berth caravan, a 6 berth tent and a 4 berth trailer tent. All have their advantages - but the TT is the most versatile, easier to tow than the caravan, erects in minutes, and you are sleeping off the ground. Ours doesn't have a lot of storage onboard, but if does have a rack on the lid which we use to keep all the main equipment in. We keep the TT in the garage - whereas the caravan is stored some miles away.
When our current car dies, or the caravan falls to bits, we'll get rid of the caravan and buy a smaller car as the cost of running a large towcar is getting ridiculous.
You can use Caravan Club sites with a TT, which is handy as we can choose which to take. If it's a long way I prefer to take the TT, especially if it's a short break. Much less hassle than collecting the caravan, then towing it. The TT takes longer to set up of course, but you're on holiday so who'se watching the clock? And to be honest the difference is not very much.
And the TT takes much less to maintain than the caravan. Just grease the bearings and check the tyres and lights and you're sorted.
Like the poster above, we have a Trailer Tent , a large 6 man tent plus trailer and several smaller tents. We used to store our TT in France to cut down on ferry prices etc but have repatriated it as I have severe osteo arthritis and need to be off the ground to sleep. Ours has a luggage rack on which we have 2 bike rackes and a roof box in which we have all the bedding , towels, etc. It means we can decide last minute to go away and just need to grab some food and clothes. When we bought it - in 2001 - we went for the best we could get and as many extras as we thought we would need - hence the luggage rack. As we have 2 Labs as well as 2 teenagers we need quite a bit of space so bought the undertents - which are excellent if the kids need their own space - or for storage ( safe from snaffling dogs!) We also bought the front box and a porch extension so the dogs can be outside even when the weather is not too good! ( It comes in handy for BBQS in the rain too!)
They all have good points and bad, we did have a caravan once but to be honest hated towing it, so went back to a tent. Now we have a TT and for us two old uns just the job. Everything is in the trailer chairs table etc toilet tent, and the kitchen has the rest. The Best point is you leave the beds made up, Ok so set up time about 3/4 of an hour, so what! toilet in the front box with cable for EH.
So there you have it you pays your pennies and take a chance.

Kitchen is on the back and contains all food and utensils.
Only downside is if it is packed away wet then you have to open it up within 2 days to allow it to dry.
Amazing family weekend with old steam engines, classic car displays, market stalls, and full catering and bar. And camping on site - Save £25 by booking in advance.
