can anyone tell me

im sure my conway contiki had "wheel arches" inside the internal storage boxes, but im sure the floor (above the wheels/ metal section)  didnt need it as there was enough clearance and no suspension, the tyres would never have hit the cross-beams anyway

anyone know?

cheers

ive got an old one only worth turning into a box trailer, normally the wheels sit outside the box giving a lower floor, if the wheel boxes intruded into the (already) higher floor i may not bother

have to take a look

ok ta

my old LDV convoy lwb had wheel boxes limiting width but the suspension (ex-panzer tank) meant the wheels were never goona get close to the body anyway

Hi,

I have converted a conway trailer tent into a trailer before just by stripping it out, and yes it will have wheel arches that intrude into the trailer.

A trailer will also always have suspension as it is a legal requirement.

Regards, Tim.

All the erde trailers have got suspension as do all Conway trailer tents, it is based on indespension units, whereby the hub and wheel is fixed on one end of a cranked arm, and the other end goes into a beam and is surronded by rubber blocks. The suspension movement occurs from the small arm moving up and down which in relation turns the other end thus squashing the rubber blocks.

Look at the following link and you will see what I have poorly explained :

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/INDESPENSION-350kg-TRAILER-SUSPENSION-UNITS-HUBS-/110547635947

It can also be called Rubber Torsion suspension.

No road trailer is legal to use unless fitted with suspension in working order (I have built several trailers in the past and made sure they adhered to the regulations stipulated so have researched this before).

Hope that helps.

Regards, Tim.
