I have finally decided that i can't stand waiting 12 months to go on holiday for 2 weeks a year and that a return to camping is long overdue now that the children have become mildly bearable..
Trailer tents seem to be a good way to go. I have seen a lot in the forum about various TT's. I was initially drawn to the Camp-Let but have been put off by the price and lack of Sewn in / Zip up ground sheet.
My attention is now on the Trigano Odyssee. It seems to offer the ease of put up that the Camp-Let has but with a bit more comfort. I have heard that the kitchen weighs a ton but then i have also read that two adults can manage it as well. The only thing that seems odd is that i can't find any for sale?
I called Camperlands and they have none but may get some in for next year. Some adverts i've read say the model has been around for years but there are none on e-bay or apparently anywhere else. They're either rubbish and no-one buys them or so good you never need to get rid of it.
Anyone own one or seen one or can comment on how good they are?
If you would not be using it until spring, perhaps wait until the new models are released in October, and in turn if you don't go for a new model other owners may & in turn part ex theirs!
We are looking to get the Olympee, but I would really prefer beds facing each other rather than the main awning....something is gonna have to give!
Thanks, i'll keep an eye on it and see what sort of price they're asking. That's the other problem. With the lack of dealers or second hand models up for sale gauging what is a reasonable price is a bit tricky.
Living in Kent is not exactly ideal for day trips to either Blackcountry or Camperlands. I'm probably closer to a dealership in France. Does anyone know of any dealers just over the channel?
I think it may have changed this year, but Camperlands did stock the Jamet Jametic rather than the Trigano Odyssee, although they will order them if thats what you want. The Jamet is very similar, still made by Trigano, but cheaper, and more popular with the customers. I think the Jametic is a bit easier to erect than the Trigano because it doesn't have an appex roof, but I think that means the Trigano sun canopy is sturdier. Otherwise they appear to be very similar.
Our Jametic is great, it goes up as quickly as the Camplet did, but with the benefit of a ZIG, and an underbed tent. It is heavier to move around, and the kitchen does weigh a ton, but its perfectly manageable by two adults. Also the beds are very high, but we are all tall so thats not a problem, and that would be the same in the Trigano.
The Camplet is smaller and lighter, and solo pitching is possible.
I would think that there will be Trigano's at the NEC in October, there were last year, I think it was Black Country Caravans. There were also Camplets (Camperlands), Combi Camps, and Penine/Conway folding campers. I also enjoyed looking round the massive motorhomes and fold away caravans!
I've had a look at the exhibitor list and Trigano are shown so that may be worth a visit even if it's just to look exotic motohomes that i'll never be able to afford.
I have looked at the jametic on Camperlands web site and struggled to see the difference between that and the Trigano. I suppose its just what's in vogue on a particular year, but the jametic colour scheme seems pretty bright compared to the pastels of the Trigano's. I suppose if i'm basing my judgement on colour schemes thats pretty sad and probably not worth paying an extra few hundred pounds for. From the lack of response from Odyssee owners i'm guessing most people just pop on a pair of sunglasses and go for the Jametic.
Thats pretty much what they said at Camperlands,lol! For what its worth its a nice light tent inside, its nice to wake up in.
I saw the Trigano briefly at the NEC, and obviously I'm familiar with the Jametic. I THINK the Trigano has an apex at the front, whilst the Jametic is flat. The only difference I can see is in the sun canopy's, but bear in I've never seen the Trigano with a sun canopy attached, and I'm basing this on pictures. Our sun canopy is like the Camplet one in that it zips on then uses 3 king poles and guys to keep it up. The Trigano one appears to have a frame, including a centre pole which attaches to the apex, like you see on other trailer tents. I would guess that this design has advantages in bad weather, but I would also assume that it takes longer to pitch. Otherwise I can't see any difference either, other than the price tag!
We went to the NEC out of curiosity last year, its a bit sad, but we had a good day out!

I have an old odyssee (1991). Aside from some minor age related faults it is a good tent. It takes about 1/2 an hour to pitch inc. pegging. The kitchen is heavy and does need two people too lift it. The beds are quite high so might not suit someone with mobility problems. Overall we like it particularly as it's quick and easy to put up.
