Last week we decided to sell our 98 pennine folding camper , its been lovingly looked after is in very good condition had one repair in the cabin 5 yrs ago and is as dry as dry can be , we saw an add from someone asking for a penninne aged 95 to 2000 so got in touch ,the Female rang and asked me about it i was honest and assured her that it was dry and had 240 V electrics .
The next day her husband phoned and asked for pics , fair enough so we sent some , he phoned back and said it looks in very good nick i replied that it indeed was , they asked us to withold the advert we were going to put up as they were keen , we discussed a price and we very fairly knocked £250 of the asking price and threw in extras such as brand new toilet tent , elecric blow heater ect , the guy over the week asked more Questions than Scotland yard , ie is it dry answer yes , has it been garaged answer yes up until this spring , is there storage sppace under the seats answer yes , does it have the handle to let the legs down answer yes , does the fridge work answer yes , does the zip work answer yes , do you have key to boot ( no we kick it till it opens ) answer yes , is the spare ok answer yes though on checking it had a leaky vavle so we took it to a tyre placed and had it fixed have you smoked in it answer no , have you had pets in it answer no along with a host of other Questions all answered honestly .
So after all that is cleared up and us not putting an advert up they arrange to come over but ask us not to put the camper up till they get here we agreed , they arrived we show them camper , my hubby drops legs then we uncover it and drop the sides down , now this is when the tape measure appears from the woman she measures one of the beds from the outside and says its only four foot wide , it isnt its six from the inside but hey ho , she then decides the sides are to heavey to drop and in under ten mins they are gone leaving us flabberghasted .
Why oh why dont people do their homework on the camper they intend to view before they view ? they have wasted a full week of our time in hindsight we should have gone ahead with the advert but thought it would be polite not to i just hope these people dont do the same to others , the woman said she had a bad back and couldnt manage to pull down the sides i wished she had said that on the phone to save all the bother .
we had similar a couple of years ago, were selling a raclet.it was only 13 months old and as new.Answered a load of questions, agreed the price. They got to our house, and started haggling on the price. We said we would not budge on price,as we were selling at less than half what it cost.20 minutes later, they just left,as we would not drop any.felt like going after them with a big hammer.
It is bad but thats what happens when you sell something private, You get alsorts of weird and wonderful people!
We sold a caravan earlier in the year, I had a row with the buyer He had just assumed that we were selling everything with it, even though in my advert I had clearly stated what was included in the sale! Couldn't believe his attitude, he was already getting a bargain, I ended up just giving him some extra stuff to shut him up!
You should advertise it and not take it off until you have a cash deposit, think of yourselves, the buyers do!
People like this are only thinking of themselves. They don't really care about the seller. Nothing is sold till cash changes hands. Best to advertise and not give in to these messers!
Hello, sorry to hear of your timewasters, as we have just sold our trailer tent to a very nice couple who came a long way to purchase. Having had timewaster s when selling previously (people coming to look at ours beacuse it was nearer than the dealers etc) we were expecting the worst. Our people had done their homework and knew exactly what they were coming to see. duly came with agreed cash and a vehicle to tow it away. I did direct all potential viewers to the dealers website so that they could see all the relevant details.
Does get on my nerves a bit all the "dry" questions, the proper question is are there any leaks and has it got a mildew problem rather than has it been "dry stored" all its life! As anyone with canvas knows if it is put away wet it will be manky!
Hope you had a better experience with the next ones!
It's not only the buyers, sellers can sometimes be timewasters too, we have been to view Items that have been described as good condition then when we got there they have only been fit for the tip.
