Well, I run a Passat towing a Pennine Fiesta which is not as wide as the Crusader and mirrors make life so much easier.
So from me it's a YES.
The law says you should have mirrors if your caravan is wider than your car, so I'd assume the same applies to a folding camper.

I have a Crusader and when I picked it up it was hard to see behind properly without some, on the way home. I have strap on ones which work fine.

I use the Suck and See mirrors and I find them very good and if they do fall off they have got an elastic cord to save them from falling off completely so not all is lost.Cheers.Alex

S-max 1.9m caravan probably 2.3m so cars mirrors will not be able to see down the side of the caravan. It is a leagl requirement that you can see down the side of the caravan so mirrors are a requirement.

For a licence dated 1997 or later you must add together the plated max weight of the caravan and trailer, if the total is 3500 or less you can tow it. You may even tow a caravan with a MAM greater than the cars unladen mass the restriction was removed in 2013
