Hiya

Not used our trailor tent a Raclet jasmin for 3 years and hope to use it this year but I am guessing it will need tyres replacing? and some sort of maintenance check?  Can you please let me know what I should get checked and who would I get to do this? A normal garage?  Help!!  ;-)

Hi

Normal trailer things to check are.

Tyres and pressures

Wheel Bearings (if taper roller would recommend regreasing)

Lights

Brakes when fitted

Coupling

Main frame for cracks and excessive corrosion

Don’t know much about the rent part but I would erect and visually check the condition and check all fittings and fixtures work properly.

Thanks Pete

sounds silly, but can a normal mechanic do these checks?

We will erect it in advance of holiday to check the main part.

A normal competent mechanic should be able to check bearings, tyres, brakes and electrics.

If you have gas pipes and connections, I would make sure that the person is specifically qualified to play around with these.

just the usual checks that most would do each season, tyres, bearings, gas supply, electrics (240 volt AND running gear).
start at your jockey wheel and work back.

have a great 2011 season!

Look HERE for a guide I posted a while ago.  Most jobs are straightforward & can be done with very few specilaist tools.  Anything you are not happy with, a caravan or trailer service centre (like Indespension) should be able to help out with.  Good luck.

Steve.
