Hi, I'm looking at thee retro fit of the gas struts, and wonder if the canvas still fits OK around the strut witgh the side skirt in place? Regards Tony.

I think it will, but I haven't got that far yet.

The main canvas has a slot cut in it to allow straddle the strut and fit flush to the bed board. The side skirt shouldn't be affected as it lays over the strut and will only be distorted by a small amount. The only small problem might be if the press studs don't reach.

What pennine model do you have?

Hi again. I have an Apollo. Similar to a Fiesta but some differences to the internal layout I think. I have bought two Pennine struts and aim to fit them in the next month or so. My main concern at the mo is compressing the struts to the length shown in the photos prior to fitting. I saw a suggestion on another site that a ratchet strap around the length would work. I'd like to know how those on the Fiesta were done....Regards, Tony.

OK, I see where I was going wrong. The diagram shows dimensions from the bottom of the trailer for the strut fixing points. This is OK if you want to replicate the fitting to a Fiesta. The actual critical dimension is the extended length of the strut which is 720mm. To find the mounting point on the bed (not 380mm on an Apollo) the maximum radius of the bed needs to be found and the other strut fixing point drilled and fixed while in this position (a bit off vertical). This point is when the strut makes a straight-line from the bottom fixing point, through the pivot point of the bed hinge, and to the bed with the bracket fixed on the end of the strut. That way when the bed is rotated either way, the strut is aways shortening....

Holy Thread Resurrection, Batman! (Is, I believe, the phrase the young people use in this situation)

Unfortunately the key pictures are no-longer visible and I gather that pie*face seems to have become inactive on here - but if anyone has any pictures or other details that might assist in my own quest to add gas struts to my Fiesta, I would be very grateful indeed!

If you, or anyone is interested, I have two Pennine struts, marked GSE 5886-550N, that I was going to fit to our, now sold, Apollo. They are going for a cheap £20 the pair plus whatever it costs to post.
