Does it leak? I think the test is, if it does then reproof it, but once you start waterproofing you have to do it again.
If the awning is canvas it will probably not need waterproofing from what i understand. When the canvas gets wet the threads expand and prevent any water leaking in. I'm sure other will bear me out on this.... unless im wrong lol
If it ain't broke don't fix it :)
