We are planning on taking our FC to France in July.  As there are only two of us I was thinking of removing the mattress for the spare bed (the smaller of the two doubles) to save some weight.  I could then use that space on site for storing clothes/food etc in boxes. 

Has anyone done this and if so did it impact on balance, the putting up etc..?

 It is only for the France trip as we do use the spare bed on some camps with either our own grown up children or other family.

I already use the wardrobe as a cupboard with some cheap plastic drawers in there.  It means that even little creepy crawlies do not find their way in. 

If not using for food I would keep the wardrobe anyway.

It's not really about the storage as I could put things on top of the bed anyway, I was just thinking that since we definitely don't need that bed for the France camping trip, maybe could leave the mattress behind to reduce the weight load and maybe allow more things to travel, but will put back in once back.
