10 metres is too short and most so called tent EHU leads that only supply 10 metres are not properly protected and are just household extension leads.
Most bona fide tent hook ups are 20 metres so bearing in mind a couple of metres usually stays inside the tent then 20 metres from the outside plug of a caravan should be plenty in most cases.
You will sometimes find that won't be long enough but this is rare and in most cases where this happens the campsite is aware and will lend or hire you an extension lead. Usually if you need an extra long lead it will say so in the campsite literature.
thanks will go for the 25mtr one it,s just me watching the pennies nearly there putting her up for the first time this weekend practice run fingers crossed
25mtrs is the max length recommended . 2.5mm Sq cross sectional area minimum conductor size for a 16A connection. you don't really need the RCD on the end of it asthe hook up point should have one , unless the site hasn't had any electric upgrade work in at least the last 30 years ;) . but its far beter to have one . you can get a fairly decent one for about £40 .
Too long is always better than too short! Remember though not to leave any excess cable in a coil as it can heat up where it overlaps. Better to lay the excess out in long loops. I do this between the guylines and tent so that it's out the way and doesn't get tripped over.
If you are using it in a tent then it should have an RCD fitted, the campsite RCD's are frequently time delayed and won't operate within the specified time for personal protection.
You don't want to hang on to 30mA for longer than necessary unless you like pain!
If you are thinking of camping on the continent, get the standard 25m line with RCD plus an extension of 10m.
You will be surprised at how far you need to search to find the socket on some French sites
