I am considering purchasing a TT and am looking at the Trigano Oceane. As an option you can buy the unit with brakes. Can anybody advise if this is really necessary and how the brakes work ? Your advice would be greatly appreciated. Also, I would like to bring up the old debate about Sunncamp TT`s and their poor quality as reported by some. Has anybody purchased a new one as I read somewere that they had improved the overall quality. It does seem a very appealing package as they are so much bigger than other TT`s. However, I have been put off them by the bad reports even though I have not seen them "in the flesh" which is why I am now looking at the Trigano. Again, any comments would be appreciated.
Don't know about the individual tt but the brakes work by having an actuator in the tow bar, when the car brakes the momentum of the trailer compresses the actuator and this puts on the brakes, when the car accelerates the actuator decompresses and release the brakes.
I would assume a tt without brakes is cheaper, whether you buy one with brakes or not depends if your car is heavy enough to tow one without brakes
A braked trailer allows for a higher payload and also has the added safety of its own ability to stop. Tony Marris of Towbars and trailers has an article that is worth reading.
You need to have a look at the towing weights in your handbook. And for modern unbraked trailers you do need the secondary coupling. As a general rule you can normally tow about the kerbweight of the car with a braked trailer (exceptions are things like four-wheel-drives which can tow a lot more) and with an unbraked trailer that is reduced to about 1/2 the kerbweight of the car
I bought a new Sunncamp 350SE in October after viewing several other brands, second hand and new. What i liked bout it was the size of the thing in comparison to others of a similar price ( i was on a limited budget). Another reason for buying the sunncamp was the additional freebies the dealer through in with it being the end of the season (amounted to a bout £500 quids worth if bought separately).
Anyway its only been up when i picked it up and the dealer walked me through pitching it. I also pitched it once for practice and after a few headaches of what goes where and poles falling on my head it went up relatively easy. It seemed a fairly robust TT and evrything appeared to be well made (but then youd expect that iin a new TT).
I have only towed it a bit but not had any problems and i am using a Kia Rio 1.3 and the TT is well within the towing weight permitted in the cars handbook.
As for how it stands up to actual use I am afraid i wont be able to comment on that until the end of the year.
Overall from the research i did prior to the purchase i think it will be value for money but only time will tell on that one.
I am just looking forward to using it throughout the year and who knows maybe meet up with some of you on the meets.
we used to have a sunncamp 350sx untill we got a folding camper. we had the 350sx for about 3 years and never had a problem with it at all . each time we went away there was the usual swearing when putting it up or bringing it down as i have not much patience, hence the reason for buying a FC, but when it was up the amount of space in the 350sx was massive with room for everything.
the reports that ive read on the sunncamp have been a bit up and down but my own opinion is they are good for what you pay .
Brakes would be "nice to have", but unneccesary (assuming towing weights are fine). Towed my unbraked TT several thousand miles with a problem. At the time of buying, the man from Conway told me there were not needed.
the sunncamp is agood type of t t the space is very good ,we have used it quite afew times and found it quite easy to put up and take down,.we were away in the high winds in august ,and it stood up to then and the rain,we saw other tt/tents being blown about, one of the best things about it is the bottom panel it is not canvas ,but a rubber type so if it got muddy ,we could wash it off with water, and no worry about it rotting,so we as afamily think it is a good tt ,even though we brought it as a demo model,
