We have just come back from a fantastic holiday in France in a tent but have suffered from storms.
We are now thinking of upgrading to a trailer tent and just wondered if anyone has any advice or anecdotes as to the stability of trailer tents in strong winds.
We have a RACLET and it has endured some really bad storms. On one occasion in the Lake District tents were wrecked by the force of the wind - our tt was sold as a rock! Foolishly perhaps in the 10 years we have it we have never guyed it out - only pegged it down!
I saw modern tents almost ripped to shreds one night a couple of years ago in Bude in very high winds, our 1982 TT stood up to the worst of it and came through unscathed!!!
As long as you peg it out correctly and tension the guy ropes well you should have no problems with a TT.
Good luck

------------- Give a man a fish and he'll feed his family for a day.
Teach a man to fish and he'll sit around on a boat all day drinking beer!
We were in Anglesey a while back and had strong winds - the weather report said gusts of over 50mph - our TT was piched on a hill facing right into the wind so it got the full force of it. The force of the wind slightly bent the long ridge pole that runs across the top of the awning, but otherwise we had no trouble. I only noticed the pole had a slight curve in it next time we went away.
We pitched at Dunstan Hill in very strong winds, after being delayed by 2 lorries falling over on the motorway. The site was in chaos, with a big Outwell being torn to shreds, and a Cruiser having nearly lost it's awning. A couple of vans had there awnings damaged,(including the site managers). Once the wind had dropped to a mere gale,we pitched using every pegging point and guy,and it was fine. Full marks to the family with the destroyed tent, went out and bought a replacement and carried on! I wouldn't have attempted to pitch a traditional TT like Russ boys in those conditions, too much canvas, but if anything ,once up they are even better.
