Morning, having recently bought a trailer tent, what do you do if you get a puncture? Any tips would be gratefully received

(a) do you carry a spare wheel?

(b) are your steadies in good condition?

If yes then stop, place warning triangle on road some 20 metres away, unhitch, apply brake, loosen wheel nuts, raise wheel off the ground with the appropriate steady, remove wheel, replace with spare, lower steady tighten nuts, let off hand brake, rehitch, get into car, drive off, feel smug, stop and get out, retrieve warning triangle, drive off feeling stupid.

I wouldn`t like to use the trailer tent corner steadies on the basis that IMHO they are not intended to take the full weight of the trailer tent loaded with all you camping equipment. They are just there to steady the trailer.

Go for a bottle jack as mentioned or one of these

We have a bottle jack (now) but would (and did on first trip out!)  also drop the corner steadies so they are touching the ground as a safety measure. As a last resort then use the steadies to raise wheel slightly off the ground but this can damage them and possibly twist chassis so is a last resort

Having a spare wheel is obviously pretty important for all of this however!

Generally I would agree with the bottle jack route. My setup is only 250kg UL and 450 laden. The steadies are also very hefty and designed for levelling.

I was led to believe that corner steadies were intended for just that very point "levelling" and not for lifting a fully laden TT off the ground as there was a danger that they could collapse under such weight.

However, I may be wrong, but it is something I would not wish to try myself or recommend to any TT owner wishing to change a wheel.

Spare wheel every time. Vehicle as far over to left as possible even on hard shoulder get on the grass if possible. If using the jack on grass make sure you have a good pad down and it is capable of supporting the vehicle Your triangle should be 50mtrs behind the vehicle. If working on the offside of the trailer/vehicle have a lookout watching the traffic at all times. If on the hard shoulder when leaving drive on the shoulder up to the speed of traffic before re-joining the carriageway. Don't forget switch off hazards and indicate.

so no one uses that fix a flat goop? I'm tempted to buy one just to finish the journey and change wheel at destination once calm (it would stress me out), I know it wouldn't make me friends with whoever had to fix the puncture/replace tyre 17
