The AL-KO 1300 on our FC has jammed so that the wheel will only ratchet when I turn to lock it. It will not turn at all to close. Wizard sent me some information about freeing it with a 13mm socket and hammer but despite my enthusiastic thumps it still won't budge.

Can anybody suggest anything else I can try before I resort to seeking a professional?

Thanks
Graeme

Hi, I had a similar problem, I couldn't, undo the side ratchet knob and therefore couldn't remove the FC from the car !! I believe the previous time I removed the FC from the car I undid the ratchet knob too far and the C clip on the shaft (middle of ratchet knob) had come off. I fitted a new C clip and now only undo the ratchet knob a couple of turns being very careful not u do too far & so far all ok. To get the ratchet knob to turn I had to borrow a Stillson adjustable wrench and a use bit of brute force. If you search the forums I think you might find better explanations.

Hi Phil,

Thanks for you thoughts. Ours was like that when we bought it so I'm guessing it has been wound off too far. I did a bit of Googling today and somebody said you have to turn the ratchet wheel whilst hitting it.

I rang AL-KO today but other than hitting it hard they had no other advise. If that doesn't work it will have to back to a service centre. It's never been stuck on the car but I don't know what state the thing will be in when I get the ratchet wheel free.

Graeme
