Me and my girlfriend currently camp with our outwell but I've always fancied moving to a trailer tent. There's 4 I quite like being the camplet, Jamet liberty, trigano alpha and the raclet solena.

I'm going to view a raclet solena this weekend however it doesn't come with the awning, just a sun canopy. So have a few questions. Where can I buy an awning for the solena? Also I'm 6'2 in height and without seeing one yet I'm worried about standing height.

Having owned a Solena I would not consider one without a full awning. The cabin unit on it's own is ideal for an overnight stay, but longer stays need the awning.

I think you would have problems getting an awning.

I can't remember how high it was.

I must say I really liked our Solena, it ticked all the boxes for me , but my wife wanted more comfort, so we bought a Fiesta.

Good trailer tents are currently so cheap that I would not consider one without an awning.

What is your budget - recently a one year old Trigano Odysee did not sell on ebay for £2,000, which is less than half its original price - this tent has a quick errect awning which is attached to the main cabin, apparently the whole thing can be put up in 15 minutes

I currently have a massive Cabanon Galaxy on ebay at £350, it has loads of life left in it (unlike many of the ebay trailer tents).

Certainly the Cabanon would be fine for a 6'2'' person - the beds are 2.2m long

When looking at a canvas tent, I would avoid anything that had been treated with sealant (eg fabsil) this is a very clear indication that the canvas is nearing the end of its life

We're ideally looking for a 2 berth but something that could be easily stayed in for something like a 7 night trip. I drive a ford fiesta so needs to be light as well.

To be honest I haven't looked at a budget yet as we're just getting an idea as to what is best suited for us.

The Trigano Odysee would be ideal - I was very tempted, however, it is just a little small for a family

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&_trksid=p4340.l2557&item=110911580436&nma=true&rt=nc&si=b6zJh7sicTDiaqtW%252BIjxpCm3tRE%253D&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWAX%3AIT&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc

A ford fiesta will tow any trailer tent - there is not that much difference in weight between a large and small one - typically around 350 kgs

Thanks for the link. Odysee looks nice. Similar idea to a camplet on how it opens

Hi

I own a Solena and am 5ft 6ish. I think you'll find it too low, as well as the bed not being long enough for you.

Have you considered a Combi Camp?

Hi there,

I agree with Fiona G. We nearly bought a Solena last year and it's not that tall. We're 5'9 & 5'10. I don't think you'd find it very comfortable.

We own a Combi camp and it's quite heavy - much bigger than the Solena. So is the Trigano Alpha and the only one of those I've seen was black & white. Very depressing.

Camplets are much lighter and loads of people like them.

Ooh, choices, choices - I do envy you!

Would it have to be kept out of doors? If so, think about a pram top one like the Solena or the Combi camp as they seal up tight to keep stuff out. Some of the others are a bit leaky and I've heard people complain about mice getting in over the winter

So did you go and see it?

We find the Solena perfect for us. I am 6' and do find that my head touches the roof lining (but not the actual canvas) in the cabin part if I stand up straight but we live mostly in the awning so it's not a problem. I wouldn't have one without an awning although, at a pinch, we could probably manage a weekend with just the sun canopy and a windbreak to create a kitchen.

Another benefit for us is the weight. 230Kg unladen and about 320Kg loaded, including the roof bag so easy to tow with our Jazz 1.2.
