i have just been given a pennine clubman, how do i tell when it was made as needs a few bit done to it

There should be a plate on the A frame with the serial number on ie xxxxx96.   96 is the year

Thanks i just looked at that and it been paited over the only number i can see are 86 then a gap then 84 then below that is 600

You will need to get under that paint to get last numbers as "blues" above has said. Last 2 is year made. I if the last two numbers on the same line is 86 then is was 1986 made. If 84 then it was 1984 made.

Sounds like chassis no. 86 in 1984. The 600 will be the max gross weight.

The plate on our Pennine Fiesta looks like this:

Chassis No.196/96

Max Gross Wt.750 kg

All the actual numbers are stamped, the rest is printed, so that ties up with what you are seeing on a painted plate.
