Hi
Not sure how best to describe the part we're having probs with and not sure if all folding campers work the same, but on our trigano 575, the awning zips on. Once zipped on a flap on the mainunit is overlapped onto the top of the awning and existing within this flap is an elasticated cord. On our last trip without the awning we discovered it pulled quite a good way through and in a pile on the floor - someone obviously had fun pulling at it :-(
Anyway, for various reasons we've not been able to get the camper open and sort, and my hubby thought it wouldn't take much sorting. We need to sort it today, or sort something out which will work until we can get it repaired.
HERE'S WHAT WE TRIED
We cannot attach something to the elastic (like a safety pin or something) and drag it through - it won't come.
The other thing he tried was pulling a wire through which he got all the way through (fed it through with the safety pin on end) and this took about 3-4 hours to thread through. He then attatched the elastic to it and tried to pull the wire back through to pull the elastic with it. It wouldn't come! It is a really tight fit
Obviously we can stil zip the awning on, but without this flap tensioned, we will leak at the seam - through the zip as we did on our first ever set up until we tensioned that flap realising what the elastic was for! We need the awning on for the trip and we need it dry!
We're thinking unless we can do the elastic, the camper will have to go in to be repaired, but no time now.
Anyone had this issue and been able to sort? In absence of sorting properly, anyone got any ideas of a temporary solution?
Mm, that's something to consider. Hubby now wondering about threading really strong fishing wire through - obviously it won't have the elastic give but it will go through and might pull it tight. He went to local camp and caravan shop to buy some guy lines but they were too short. And then to fishing shop next door and got some. If we can get some long guy lines too for a belt and braces approach we will perhaps manage. Think one way he went wrong with initial threading was camper was fully up. If it's just flopped over but poles not up, then should be easier to thread - but still doubt we'll get proper elastic through. Here's hoping we'll manage this coming trip :-)
What about trying a proper bobbin, most haberdasheries sell them, they are much better at threading elastic into clothes than a safety pin. Otherwise what about getting some narrower elastic cord.
And for your ideas Nixtoo! we've a good selection of little independents just about left in town, so should be able to find a haberdashers here, or if not, I'll seek one out somewhere around and about! We just got totally stuck and aren't very creative around such problems. So glad of this forum!
