Several of the 12v connectors on our 2005 Pennine Pathfinder appear to be oxidised.

Any idea the correct way to clean the 12v connectors to remove the oxidisation ? You generally have to push a connector in and twist it around a little until an electrical connection is made - I'm sure its just down to age.

Hi

Although you can buy a cleaning tool for 12v towing plugs & sockets it probably isn't worth the effort.

New plugs are quite cheap & as you have to twist the old one around the pins will have been distorted, so I would suggest getting it replaced.

Mine sometimes do this-just gt some wet and dry paper, roll it in a tube and sand them down. give them a good blow to get rid of the dust. Works for me and a lot less bother than changing plugs. also use a flat bladed screwdriver to widen the split in the connectors slightly. This will tighten up the plug in the socket.

The other plug/socket set-up that you will need to keep clean is that of the water pipe where it enters the main unit.

As mentioned above, we use a combination of wet and dry paper and then a good squirt of Halfords Contact Cleaner.
