I have a 1999 cruiser, I tried to service the braking system today.
The manual that came with it does not show the braking system that is fitted to it.
After removing the hub cap I expected to find a castellated nut but there is a large metal nut with a paint mark on it which makes me think that it may be a one shot nut.
Can anyone help with a diagram for this braking system.
Also I do not seem to be able to locate the star wheel brake adjuster.
Regards
John
I'm not saying that it is but the nut could well possibly be a 'nylock' nut which has a nylon insert at the rear of the thread which once used has to be disposed of and a new one used and sometimes this methiod was used as an alternative fastener to the previous castellated nut and cotter pin. Regarding the brake shoes, is there a square lug protruding on the back plate at all? If so this is the brake adjuster which you will need the appropriate tool to adjust it. You can use a spanner but it's quite difficult as the proper adjust is angled for this purpose.
Thanks for the reply but the nut is a solid metal one with a flange on it, there is no lug on the back plate just a small hole covered with a plastic bung, inside this hole should be a star wheel adjuster that you turn with a screwdriver.I put a screwdriver in the hole but cannot seem to locate the star wheel.

Just ordered 2 one shot nuts and 2 new dust caps.
Had a word with my local garage and they are going to lend me a heavy duty torque wrench so that I can set the new nuts to the correct torque once I have completed the job.
Thanks to all
