Hi everybody, Hope you all had a good festive season and are looking forward to the good weather returning!!
I am looking to fit some sort of security deposit box to our Countyman (2012) in order to be able to lock things away when we are down in France / Spain this year, such as iPad, e-readers, satnavs, money, passports etc. I was wondering if anybody out there had already fitted one and had any tips or advice, such as weight consideration, size, location etc?
Many thanks in anticipation of your help,
Simon
I have seen underfloor safes fitted to campers before, the main benefit is they are not obvious, but thieves surely know where to look.Disguising it as a heater may work. Anything of value we take stays in the car, except the kindles which are hidden in old books hollowed out.

Duct tape is silver
Thanks Miserly, we too keep most of our stuff locked in the car at present. My idea was to fit some kind of security box similar to those found in most hotel rooms, bolted to the floor / chassis and probably fitted under the seating. I was hoping to deter the opportunist thief who is looking for an easy target.
Thanks again,
Simon
There is quite a good floor safe on the market that can be cut into the floor and covered under a carpet. It would have to be fitted in a position so that it could not be accessed from underneath the van.Its made by yale(i think) and can be found by various retailers on ebay.Try a search on ebay for security safes and there are lots. they weigh
Thanks GCB, I will have a look on eBay. As I said, I am only trying to thwart an opportunist thief so I don't particularly want to hide it, just make it difficult to remove and prevent easy access to the contents.

Ours is in the bed box near the axle. At the time we bought it from argos but I have seen them in DIY stores. It takes the camera, wallet phones etc and I feel happier.
------------- Good friends are hard to find, difficult to leave and impossible to forget.
Jan,
Thanks for the info, I will check out argos too. I am still trying to find something big enough to take our ipad but will not compromise the storage space under our seats which is where I will probably fit it. I know people will say "Why take an ipad on an outdoor holiday" but we find it so useful to stay in touch when we are away for a longer period of time.
Again, thanks for the input.

Hiya, I plan on fitting one of those small safes you see in the supermarkets for about 30 quid. Will fit in my Pullman in one of the seat boxes quite well.
Note that they aren't super safe though, just really a solid place to keep stuff from prying hands. They can be broken in to like so with a potato - sadly it seems pretty hard to find ones with just a locking key (though I do like the idea of having a code - I hate carrying stuff in my pockets!
Really we'll not being taking much worth nicking, but since the pullman primarily for Glastonbury 2013, would be nice to have somewhere to keep wallets and cameras when we sleep. I've never had any trouble at glastonbury, but know of friends that lost bits when sleeping.
But it's not big enough if we do choose to take an ipad/laptop etc on holiday another time, which I can imagine we might - those supermarket safes seem big enough for an 11" netbook.
crowcrow,
Thank you for your reply. As you say, just want to keep stuff safe from prying hands. I too am thinking of fitting it in one of the seat boxes. Will have to research which one to fit after watching the video!!
Thanks again,
Simon
