You are insuring against loss due to loads of potential incidents. Just think up a scenario and see whether you would be better off with or without insurance.
Here's an example. You pitch under a tree and while you are out a bough breaks off and flattens your TT. No one has been negligent regarding the maintenance of the tree. Could you afford to replace your TT or do you need insurance to cover the cost?

If I was being flippant I would say that I don't pitch under trees as I don't want the sap on my tent! But when I look at the exclusions and even using your example the replacement cost MIGHT not be covered as the cost of a new TT could be higher than the previously paid amount (and insured amount) it doesn't seem so much of a bargain - next to useless indemnity cover and life cover that isn't needed a trimmed down policy with lower costs would be a better option in many cases.
Unless you're just having a rant because you begrudge spending £200 on insurance then you've got one of two options because I don't think you'll find a 'trimmed down' policy.
1, Don't insure and take the risk yourself - as you seem to think that the cover is worthless anyway.
2, Sell the Holtkamper and buy a cheap £500 Conway and not worry about what you might lose.
Oh - but what happens if you unhitch your Conway, you slip over and it goes rolling down a slope causing a lorry to shed it's valuable load? But I guess you've got no assets of any value for the lorry's insurance company to recover it's losses!

I must apologise for thinking that this was a discussion forum, obviously it is not possible to question the contents of a policy which appears to have things like life cover added to it in a similar way to the redundancy cover added to PPI. If you were to read my original post I asked what benefits I was receiving from a policy such as this. There appears to be only one company that offers cover, which is something I would also like to have had confirmed and I was wondering whether I had overlooked any benefits.
I am well aware of my options in not insuring but find your example of a Conway amusing as that has multiple companies offering cover.
I hardly see how my financial status has any relevance to my questions, however as I seem to invoke such vitriolic responses from you I will no longer continue to post to this thread and try to find answers elsewhere.
EOT.
Your question is could there be a cheaper way to insure the TT just incorporating what you would like (And possibly need)? Probably, BUT ,the problem as i am sure you have found out, its not as easy as that. There are only 2 or 3 companies which seem to offer insurance for Holtkampers. (Caravan Guard and Caravan club being the other 2) So in reality they have got us over a barrel, with little competition.
You would be covered if the TT was stolen, Hitch locks and the like just give time and make it difficult to steal. If it caught fire, if some idiot cut the canvas, so there is some reason to have insurance. If you compare it to house or car insurance, its probably about right. I thought it was also like for like replacement as opposed to a cash value but i may need to read the small print better.
I believe the "additional" benefits actually cost them very little, so removing them may not make the cost significantly cheaper.
It is frustrating but i don't think there is a way around it currently.
