Hi, am new to folding campers. Bought 2nd hand Pennine Fiesta, Love it. Used it this last weekend. Have Renault Clio Sports Tourer, petrol engine, which I was told and assured (did check weights etc before buying) it would tow easily. Also was told that I could push trailer on my own to manoevre it about if reversing was a problem. Now I do mostly holiday on my own with dog. However, went with friend this last time. Car towed trailer well, however, on reversing, even a straight line with a little bit of adjusting onto pitch, smelt clutch burning. Pushed trailer back into position. Dont think I could do it on my own, although am quite strong. Thought about investing in a motor movers. Does anybody have any thoughts and advice on this, as they are expensive and want to get it right and not waste money. Sorry for ramble.
oh, definitely, and didnt think i was heavy footed, somebody has said engine might be strong enough to pull camper, but not reverse it. It was a flat area, no slope and I thought it reversed easily, but boy could you smell clutch outside of car.

some do have movers fitted although they need a special bracket in most cases because of chassis, they are ok to push by hand on 'flat' tarmac,concrete etc but not on rough ground, grass, chippings etc,
that's the main reason we sold ours... to heavy to handle for one person, also erection weight.
Before investing in motor movers etc ,check that the brake auto reverse system is ok,if faulty,the brakes will apply whist reversing,but it would not affect you pushing the camper by hand.

I'll second Miserly's motion. When reversing start slowly to allow brake to deactivate. If no improvement get it checked. Considering reverse is the lowest gear in the car it should push backwards better than pulling.

As Fidgad says reverse is the lowest gear so should be able to push the camper when i had my Challenger i could push it easily and i have an arthritic knee and 2 sliped discs i recon your brakes are sticking

Just a possibility but if the trailer brakes are binding, it might not have been clutch you smelt but brake lining, they are the same material so will smell the same when hot.
As you say, movers are a lot of cash and if you are able bodied I would think you could move it around ok, I've it a dodgy back and can move our Pullman around on level ground, but not on any kind of slope.
