no need to inform the dvla, but you would be advised to insure your unit,and check your vehicle insurance regards towing, and your relevant age to see if you need to take a test to tow it legally, check details on your licence or dvla website

Insurance ... depends on your unit value ... if you pick one up very cheaply, it might not be worth while insuring.
It is not a legal requirement to insure your TT/FC/Caravan/Trailer.
As far as I know
Most insurance companies will require you to notify them if you have a tow bar fitted to your car as it is classed as a modification.
Your caravan should be covered for third party only on your car policy.
Personally I would insure my unit with a reputable insurance company.
