Feel a bit idiotic asking this, as it's probably blindingly obvious, but here goes:-
We will be upgrading our Fiesta to a Pathfinder in a few weeks, and before the Big Day, would just like to clarify the position of insurance. We currently have a Hill House Hammond policy (or whoever they are now) which was recommended when we bought the Fiesta, but besides theft and damage, say on site, would this actually cover, God Forbid, say a road accident? Tried to get to the bottom of it when I took the policy out, but not really convinced and the person I spoke to didn't really seem to know either, so in a way we've taken the ostrich view and tried not to think too hard about it, but before we start this year we would like to get it resolved. Is the fact that you tow a FC something you have to declare to your insurers, so that an element is covered by the car insurance, or would the FC policy cover everything? What about liability - say if (again, God Forbid) the think came unhitched and causd an accident?
So sorry if this is tiresome but want some peace of mind before we start and insurance companies can be hard to pin down with "what if" scenarios.
Hoping someone will know all about it and thanks a million in anticipation.
as far as towing anything , be it car caravan or trailer your car insurance automatically covers you providing you have the driving licence to do it. plague HHH for the definite answers to your cover for the trailer. dont wait and find out afterwards.
I just did our folding camper (conway crusader) through Caravan Guard. Good price and all the cover you would need. £130 for the year. They knew what was needed too.
Just insured our Penine sterling ,got 10% off being in Penine owners club ,done through Richard Keen Ltd Tel No 01639 646464,covered for £6500 and cost us £143 .Will shop around next year when got more time ,most insurance co want your custom and are always in competition with each other ,best to shop around to find what suits you
Funny I phoned caravan guard and was given a much higher price than Neelie. Paying a little more than Delboy but insured the pathfinder for a bit more than his sterling.
------------- Good friends are hard to find, difficult to leave and impossible to forget.
Just spent several phone calls working through the Insurance list posted earlier, in the quest to sort out some Insurance.Just some Info for anyone else in the same boat - Adrian Flux needed a description of a folding camper,no luck there! E&L sounded expensive so far,but they didn't ask many details before quoting.Swinton's computer said no! Caravan Guard and Club care I've yet to get through to a free operator.
I've found Richard Keen to be the best price so far and friendly sounding too.But here's the best giggle yet.........I thought I'd phone my car Insurance Direct Line just to enquire of the possibility of cover, after a short pause and a few um's I was asked what cc engine is it!!!!
was with HHH and had full cover eg covered while towing , while on sites and at home and no wheel clamps or hicth locks had to be fitted it was £87 to cover 4000
just got a renewal in today and it looks likebakers have taken over and its gone up to £104 but it never sent any conditions so will be ringing them up to find out what there term realy cover me for.
Thanks to everyone who chipped in - just to report that to cover the Pathfinder for £8,000, plus £400 for equipment and personal possessions Caravan Guard wanted £245, Richard Kean £209 with a 10% discount for Pennine membership (don't know how much it would be to join, possibly more than the discount?) and Bakers of Cheltenham (formerly Hill House Hammond) £206. All were all risks policies, but Bakers don't insist upon a wheel clamp or locking hitchlock.
