HI I have a 1.2 corsa and am thinking of TT . I am interested in a Comanche Petit 2 berth weight, is ex works 160KG gross 395KG.The towing ability of a Corsa is 700 odd KG, so no prob.
I have considered a petit, but it doesn't seem to come with any extras such as an awning and a sun canopy. The Solena does, but it then works out a bit expensive
regarding power on non hook up sites I have tapped into the grey cable charging circuit in the boot and fitted a spare battery in a plastic box, I use it for tenting as well as the van when in the van I just switch it over to car , and unplug when going out in the car that way the battery is always at a optimum , a tip I have a venting tube fitted in the spare batt and it is fed out the towbar cable entry in to the outside of the car for safety reasons no build up of gasses in the box/car

your just jealous of the little voices talking to me
I wouldn't call it 'a load of old porkies' to say you need twin eletrics for the Crusader. As has already been said, the grey plug doesn't just power the battery charging circuit and the fridge - it also powers the reversing and fog lights on the trailer. I don't know how you'd stand, legally, having a non-functioning fog light, but from a peace-of-mind point of view, I'd like to know it worked. If I ran into a fog-bank with that brute of a trailer behind me, I'd like to know that the driver behind me could see it BEFORE they ran into it!!!
You can operate the fridge whilst towing without having to open the unit - you can reach round from the door and switch the fridge to 12V. Although you still have to carry the food to site in a cool box, at least the fridge is cool on arrival. It's also nice to know that the battery is nicely topped up when you get to site - remember that the water pump and toilet flush have no manual back-up ... if you are on a site with no mains and the battery goes flat, how will you manage? If you 'splash out' on twin electrics you can plug the trailer into the car and at least have emergency power for these little essentials until you can get the battery charged.
We had two tow-bars with twin electrics fitted for about £360 (I'm sure ScampisOH will correct that figure if I'm wrong, but it's close enough!!) - one on a Mondeo and one on a Picasso. I would not have a tow-bar with single electrics fitted these days.
Good point scampi. thanks will bear that in mind. but the whole project is on hold as the car that was to do the towing blew up half way up the M1 last night. So that the start of our camping hols cancelled for a while. boo hoo was going to Swiss for Easter.
HI Enfield I got interested at Billing meet last year, Dinky Deb turned up behing me with one. I was quiet impressed. The living area is around 6ft odd square , which is a bigger than the Raclet Solena, this is ok for one or two people, .
The thing I dont like about the Solana is the lid forming you floor , if you want the options of an sun awning with extra bedroom etc , you may as well get 4 berth.
