what do most people use in the awning of there tt I have ground sheets but do most site still allow non breathable ground sheets or should I get a breathable one please ?
We have both, used the breathable one when the weather was wet and ended up with mud coming through and making a mess of the carpet, so now have a pvc one too, that way we are prepared for whatever the weather may choose to do.
We use a carpentina breathable groundsheet and even with torrential rain for days on end no mud has come through it
and the grass is not damaged when we leave
You would not have had a problem but were you on grass? and how did it fair.
------------- XVI yes?
As well is two words!
How does a sage know everything about everything? or does he? or does he just think he does?
Remember, if you buy something you bought it, not brought it.
I believe the op asked if there was an issue using non breathable groundsheets, and I answered that we haven't had any problems. A groundsheet can be lifted if necessary, or a breathable can be used with a PVC over the top when the weather is bad, but I've yet to go on a trip dry enough to do without a waterproof floor.
A trailer tent has little off ground living space, in our previous units only the beds were off the floor, and a dry awning floor to get out of bed onto is quite important to us. You wouldn't expect a tent to have a breathable groundsheet, in fact most have sewn in groundsheets, yet campsites seem to cope, and have done for many years.
Lastly, the grass is in a far better state with the PVC than it was when we tried a breathable, that cut it up because the ground was so wet. Instead of some yellowing, which will recover, we left a load of mud!

We are just back from a weekend where we used a breathable groundsheet for the first time....... Rubbish when the ground is wet. If the kids walked on it in their socks or sat / knelt on it they got wet.
We had to wear shoes inside the awning to save wet feet.
Seems a bit unfair that at sites you can pitch a huge tent with living area that has a waterproof floor yet in a tt with your living space in the awning you must use a breathable groundsheet to comply with the campsite regulations.....
I've never been told to use a breathable ground sheet at the end of the day all campsite owners should expect yellow patches on the grass, it all greens back up in the autumn. Breathable are rubbish, just another stupid idea for getting squelchy mud all through your tent waste of money, pvc every time.
