Sorry ... I think I misread your original! Ignore my post, above.
But, an observation.
We frequently do long 'bashes' at night .... the roads are usually much clearer, and you can cover a lot more ground compared to what you would do in daylight hours. And, I love the dawn sequence ...
One thing you do need to watch, though, and different people react differently, is how your body clock works .... as my job often requires work through the night and other strange times, I seem to be able to adapt fairly easily .... however, if you are not used to it, be careful, and be prepared to stop at the mearest sign of fatigue ... anyway, do two hourly stops for coffee or .... though I'd avoid Red Bull like the plague!
OH does all our driving. He likes to sleep the day before while I run my military campaign of packing the van and car (something he's useless at). I stay up and wake him for 2am. we lift the sleeping kids into the car and equipped with flasks of black coffee we head off.
OH works a shift pattern that includes nights so he is one of those really annoying people that can fall asleep to command (GGGRRRRR).
It works for us and love the spotting the sea as the sun rises

We made the mistake of setting off at 8pm to Cornwall. Roads were quiet but you get there at some ridiculous time and then we ended up trying to sleep in the car until you can get on the site. Not all sites have holding areas either and they aren't obliged to let you on as really it's one free night.
This happened to us last year. We set off at 4am but ended up on site at about 9.30am and had to wait until 11am before we got on our pitch. Then we were setting up all tired and grumpy!
We leave about 5am (Bedford) to beat the morning rush hours and get to camp abput 1pm. Never really get held up, may be from m4 to m5 is a bit busy, but never too much of a hold up.
Amazing family weekend with old steam engines, classic car displays, market stalls, and full catering and bar. And camping on site - Save £25 by booking in advance.
