I have just had anew towbar fitted on my car but it is to high for mt 1985 Pennine clubman.
Can i put larger wheel on the clubmn they are 145/80R 10 69T with a 110mm tcd
According to European Law all light passenger vehicles registered on or after 1st August 1998 require a type approved towbar tested to Community Directive 94/20EEC.
This law governs the height and dimensions of the towball to ensure a safe and level towing height of between 350mm and 420mm (ground to centre of towball) whilst on level ground.
Some vehicles and towbars are approved for drop plates but another way would be to fit a spacer block between the A frame and the hitch. This will effectively lower the A frame for a level tow without lowering the ball. If the ball is between the limits above it is legal.
