I always put my footprint down to protect the bottom of my tent. But lately when there is heavy rain- rain always gets trapped between the top of the foot print and the ground sheet of the tent. After a few days the ground sheet becomes damp. Any advice on how to stop this happening? Much appreciated :)
If it is raining when you lay the footprint down then it is going to get very wet. I have not had that problem yet but I would be interested to know what others might do. I think in those circumstances I might not bother with a footprint.
If the rain is running underneath the tent after you have set it up it is because the footprint is sticking out beyond the edge of the flysheet and water (and rain) is dripping on to it and running back under the tent. The footprint should be well hidden underneath the tent by several inches with nothing sticking out beyond the flysheet.
Thanks Bob61. It has been dry when putting the tent up. It is the right footprint for the tent and does not appear to be too big as I can't see anything sticking out. However it must be too close to the edge. Maybe I should fold the sides in so that I know it's away from the edges?!?! Very annoying! I should have bought the footprint a size smaller I think.
If it is the proper footprint for the tent then it should be the right size. Is it possible the tent isn't sitting centrally on it?
Another possibility is if you are pitched on a slight slope or there is a hollow in the pitch right on the edge of the footprint and the rain is exceptionally heavy and running in a rivulet along the ground, it could run over the edge of the footprint. Just guessing at possible causes.
