I have just changed the braked hitch on my pennine pullman as the ratchet had broken on the origanal one.Could some kind person tell how to set the breaking system up to work correctly, thanks in advance.

If you've not done before you might find setting the brake system more complicated than you first thought. Ignore tension on the brake wire/levers in fact slacken right off. Set the drum brakes on the wheel by locking off and then slacken off say two 'clicks' until drum is free replace both wheels and ensure the run freely. Now set the lever by adjusting the free play mechanism so that the brake comes on firmly after say five ratchet 'clicks'
That's briefly the op but if you don't know what you're doing I suggest you get hold of a good mechanic. Good luck
