So I'm taking the new ancient (Sunncamp '99) TT away this weekend and I need to blether about it.

Just me and the 3 year old urchin but my brother and his family and my cousin and his family are caravanning beside us so 1) support from people much more practical than OH is available and 2) if it all goes Pete Tong we'll get into one of those vans!

I'm feeling strangely nervous!

We did a practice pitch the other weekend and it was fraught but I learned a lot (like you need to peg a TT down for it to stay up ha ha!). I've wired up batteries for the sink but it's faulty so old school water for now. Stove is cooking with gas. Bit of hand sewing required to do a minor repair to a bedroom and a new strap needed for one bed - can fix. Were just taking sleeping bags for now; will buy duvets and bedding with a view to leaving them in situe if it all works out.

A few questions if anyone knows:

The outer canvas has a few small holes. Shall I just pack some duct tape?!

Do you know if you can replace the little spring button thing which holds the extended frame in place? It's like a walking stick adjuster. The button is gone.

Any tips for someone erecting a Sunncamp awning the size of Spain for the first time?!

lol i did chuckle at some of your descriptions. Having a sense of humour like yours will go along way when camping and sticking up awnings!

Not having had a sunncamp ( we are on our first pennine FC bought this year) with regards to awning, i can only say from experience that laying all the poles out so you know which you need before you are actually needing to put it in place worked for us.
Start from one side and work across??? like is said, this worked for us on ours and after a few shouty moments we now can put it up in about 30 mins (having done it 5 times since april).
i guess practice makes perfect so i would take it slowly, and if need be, photograph it on your phone/camera as you go for future reference.
I'm sure there are plenty on here using Sunncamp who will probably have better advice.
Good luck and have fun!

Thank you. Yes, photos sounds like a good idea. I did get hold of a manual for a similar tent but it really was a shocker - the only discernible advice was to start from the trailer end.

Would you zip the canvas on then lay poles on the ground and try to sort of prop under like with an old canvas tent?

Might wait until after beer #1 to try!

yes, thats exactly what we did. whether thats right or not who knows, but it worked for us and we have got it down to a fine art since then.

Zip on, start from one side and work over. The poles should balance themselves if you lean them out away from the way you are working

Erect cab then zip
awning on to cab, fold awning over cab
then assemble the first section of the awning poles.
Pull canvas over first section then assemble second section..
Pull canvas over second section..
Drink lots of glasses of wine during assembly and correct any minor problems next day
