I am sorry if this has been covered previously, but I have carried out searches to no avail.

I have had caravans and more recently camper vans, but now neccesity demands a 4X4 so I have a Land Rover Discovery and about to purchase a Khyam tailgate driveaway awning. which when not attached to the vehicle of course is technically a tent.

My question is where should I camp with this outfit... would it be classified a tent as not a Motor Caravan of course... or because I wish to combine facilities between the vehicle and awning, so connecting the two together on site, would I be welcome among the tents ?

My thanks in advance... Alan.

Very much down to individual sites I guess, the set up you describe sounds great on less formal ones, but I can see Club site wardens frantically flicking through the rule book looking for a reason to exclude you!

Many tent areas do not allow motor vehicles on them at all. Safety and all that, so you would be restricted on some sites.

We used to have a Caranex Tent mounted behind our Range Rover and, for the most part, the vehicle was on a caravan pitch with the Caranex on grass where an awning would sit. So we were paying for a caravan pitch.

This proved to be an expensive way to camp and in the end we went with a more conventional unit.

Yep same as Lobey, any ones I have seen are on a caravan hardstanding with the motor backed in and the Caranex on the grass.

As well is two words!
