Hi All,
I have a 98 pennine fiesta with 3 way fridge
I'm having problems lighting it off gas
It runs on electric but going to sites that don't really have the facility for electricity I need to get it working on gas.

I don't know if there's any gas getting though or if it's the pizo ignition at fault, how do I check ethem to find where the fault is..
Thanks
J

there should be a little hole in the back of the fridge with a plastic cover. this allows you to see if you are getting a spark and the pilot light.always best to get the hob setup and lit first as this helps bleed the gas pipes. also haveyou turned on the inline gas tap? mine is in the cupboard next to fridge. the camper has to be pretty well spot on level for the fridge to work on gas.

Hi there. Yep just as wongers says, really.

I have a '98 Conway Excel and have a 3 way fridge and it is becoming a devil to fire up on gas. However, my instructions say to repeatedly prod the piezo ignition button. That means don't just prod it once, pause and then prod it again, but keep prodding it repeatedly until the gas ignites. This can take a good 20 seconds or so of operation before it ignites.

Also check that the 12v and 240v switches are turned off. Not sure if will make a difference but I expect it might.

A few years ago I tentatively eased the fridge out and very carefully run the vacuum cleaner around the piezo and the burner. There were cobwebs and general clag which, when cleared, enabled the fridge to fire up almost immediately. I will do it again shortly, I think.

Just to remember that you are dealing with gas, so just be careful whatever you do. Otherwise a good caravan service engineer with a gas qualification will undoubtedly be able to sort it. After all,we know the fridge works on 240v so fingers crossed your problem is probably minor.

Hope this helps and good luck! Panda

First clean out burner with small brush and meths and if possible blow out with airline, then give it a go. If no joy then start looking at thermocouple and igniter.

Might be a daft question but are you sure the gas is turned on, our Sterling has separate valves inside a cupboard, one for the burners and one for the fridge.

Hi All, thanks for the replies
Managed to get the fridge out and the burner was filled with rust, cleaned it all out and it lights pretty much first time now

It looked like the fridge had never run on gas either, as the burner looked brand new

Just a small but advice my caravan service engineer told me when I was having trouble lighting my fridge I could not tell in the viewing hole if it was sparking or alight he suggested when looking at the little viewing hole use a kitchen roll tube I no it sounds daft but it's makes it darker and you can see exactly when it is sparking and when u have the flame hope this may help somebody else
