I've been looking at getting a trailer tent for a few months now. i have recently been given one from a family friend. the camping adventure is all new to me as i have only ever been camping three times before in my life, looking on the internet and reading magazines I've really got urge for it as it sounds so exciting and fun to do. thats why I'm going to start off with sum think like this first and then get something better once I've got the hang of things.firstly it hasn't got a cooker in it what would you recommend for a cooker? I'm going to try and install a little fridge for it any advice and tips would be very much grateful.
would i need a leisure battery to run the fridge off while i am not hooked up or can i run it off the gas bottle in the trailer.
thank you for taking the time to read this and helping me everyone has to start some where Thank You
Hi there ,i think what you need to do is open up your TT and plan out where you can fit things in and at the same time consider your budget and whether you are to cook or eat out.The cheapest option would be a small camping cooker (you don,t mention if you have gas) .A lot of people go for a cadac these days

As for the fridge you can buy portable 3 way fridges that work on 240v 12v or gas that you can move where you need to, although using one on a 12v battery would flatten very quick.
Hope this helps
happy camping GCB
Hi thank you for the advice. I've sent my budget for £350 I am hoping to get a leisure battary cooker n fridge for this. Probably hoping for to much but like I said first time and don't really no much about it. I have got a gas bottle already and hose.
How far would the gas go if u was to cook and have the fridge running off it or is it hard to say?
Hi again, tbh i have never used the fridge on gas ,we always go for hook-up .Most sites you visit now have electric points .As for cooking it all depends on usage and the bottle size you use .We had the same bottle for 2 years 6 breaks per year in the folding camper .Btw noticed on your profile, are you sure you have a trailer tent and not a folding camper? As for using the battery for the fridge you would be lucky to get 2 days usage before it ,s flat
If you have a pennine then I'm almost certain that you have a folding camper. Check to see whether you already have a cooker. Fridges can be bought separately and you should look for a 3 way fridge. Depending on your model it could already be set up for using electricity and may even have a battery compartment.
Firstly, I would agree with comments above. Pennine have never made a trailer tent, and certainly not in 1985. They only ever made folding campers, which means that, if yours is, genuinely, a Pennine, then it will have had a cooker at some point (although I appreciate it may have been removed since).
Do you know what model it is (Pennine is a make, not a model). In 1985, they were only making the Aztec, Clubman and Pullman, all of which were folding campers, and all of which had a cooker (if not a fridge). Back then, none of them had a battery compartment, and 12V systems were very much an option.
It would really help to advise you if we knew what you actually have. Internal pictures would also be ace, so we can see if the cooker has been removed. (although, if that were the case, I would expect the sink to have been removed too, as they were in one, integral, unit).
In terms of a fridge, you are probably best looking at a three way fridge (gas, mains and 12V) so you are covered when there is no electric hookup.
Whilst I would agree with the previous comments about batteries being flattened very quickly, I think we can safely say the battery would be dead in a matter of hours, not days. 12V is only a viable option when connected to a car, with the engine running.
A cool box will run for longer, but, again, not ideal.
Once again, this is all pure speculation, unless I know what it is you have. There's nothing we can't help with on here (and very little I don't know about Pennines) but, without knowing the model, we're going to struggle a little.
If you can help us with that, there's not much we can't help you with.

------------- The one good thing about being wrong is the joy it brings to others..
I've tried to post some pictures on this thread but cant figure out how to do it. I've post some photos on my gallery page.
i got mixed up when i first entered the description i said trailer tent which is a pullman camper. i no there used to be a cooker and sink in there but the person that had it before me has removed it.
thank you
Yup. as you say; early Pullman with cooker / sink removed.
Ok. Looking at the options for cooker / fridge, first question has to be; will you be using it only at sites that have a mains electric hookup, or do you plan to use it places where there is no hookup?
I notice from your original post that you were asking about gas / 12V for the fridge, so I'm assuming you may be considering using it without EHU (electric hookup). Problem there is that, as we've already heard above; you can't run a fridge on 12V, as it will kill the battery in a few hours. The other problem, not mentioned, is that the portable 3 way fridges (which will run off a gas bottle) can't be used inside the camper, as they wont be externally vented, and, hence the gas build up will be an issue.
A cool box could be run for longer, on a battery, but not ideal without some form of charging system, as well.
There are plenty of gas camping cookers, with or without grill, which can be used, safely, in the camper (although only for cooking), or, if you are planning on using EHU, then a small electric oven / grill, with double hob on top is, also, very useful. you do need to watch out, with some of these, though, as using all elements together, can easily blow the electrics on lower rated sites.

The bottom picture looks like water and waste water connections on the top of the kitchen unit you have remaining. There would have been a cooker and sink unit in a box which you lift into place when erecting and store on the floor when folded. The water and waste would simply plug in to those connectors.
You may be able to get a kitchen top unit off ebay. It probably doesn't have to be specific to the unit you have.
so the other black long pipe is the gas then which comes out by the tow bar area?
so for the waste water do u connect a hose on the outside conection and let it drain into a barrel and then the other way round for clean water for the sink which is pumped using the foot control pump inside the unit.
thank you
Something like this. ye the black pipe is probably gas going to the front locker where you will put gas cylinders.
My guess is that the bigger outlet is the waste and underneath it there may be a pipe running to outside to a small similar outlet where you can connect another short pipe to a waste water container.
The smaller outlet will be fresh water and gain under it there may be a pipe going to pump or tap.
hi
yeah there is another adapter under neath where that has outlet on and the other unmarke. i take it that is fresh and dirty. the pump is on the floor inside the cupboard i think.
ill hv a look at the camper kitchen thank you for you kind help.
thank you
