hello all,

we have recently experienced a very sad thing!

after buying a second hand cardninal clubman that we were convinced was dry we paid for a brand new canvas which made it look fantastic we got ready to go away, first day out in rain it poured in through the roof...through the hard top...we were wet!!
its a 1988 version so is old, has anyone else got this model that is watertight, we are thinking of buying a new body but wonder if this is a problem that other people have with this age of trailer??
so now we are having to scrap the body and find a new one! heart ache as we are booked on a ferry on the 14th September.

Hi sorry to hear about your leaky roof. But we had a similar problem and like you had bought new canvas, my husband is a carpenter so probably easier for him but we removed the roof took out the roofing boards (which we replaced rom our local caravan spares shop) turns out the leak started from the roof vent above the kitchen yours could well be the same. We removed this cleaned it up using meths and replaced it making sure we sealed it well also we resealed the joints around the edge above the pelmets. It never leaked again whilst we had it.
Good luck

If water is pouring in the roof then it should be easy to find the hole. Seal it with PU sealant such as Sikaflex 512. Do not use silcone sealant only PU is strong enough for job. Choose a dry morning late enough for dew to have dried, clean affected are with meths then seal with PU, it will dry in a couple of hrs. With these old campers, main thing is that its dry not what it looks like.
