hi,i have just bought my first trailer tent,it is a pennine Pullman 1988.its all our budget would take,but now I find I cannot insure it without paying silly money.the reasons given, trailer to old;its a six berth.;best one so far is I am over 70,he got an earfull told him is wife never thought so. he hung up for some reason,well I am asking anyone know of not to cheap insurers.THANKS
I would be letting the side down if I didn't point out that the Pullman is a folding camper, and not a trailer tent.
I hear this a lot, and yet I've never experienced it with any insurer. The only time the age of the camper has been an issue, as far as I'm aware, is when trying to insure new for old. Most companies won't deal with a unit over 15 years old, in that case, but like for like, I don't see the issue. If you write the camper off, what will it cost them? A grand? FFS! Obviously, an older camper may have more issues, and, if it causes an accident, I appreciate the costs could be a lot higher, but I've always find insurance companies to be fine with older units, with sime of mine costing just £50 - £60 per year to insure. For the record, I'm with Camping & Caravanning Club for my insurance (though I'm not a member).

There's no legal requirement to insure the camper. You are covered for 3rd party risks while towing on your car insurance. Obviously no insurance payout on camper if it is burnt out or wrecked but I doubt if insurance would pay out more than a couple of 100s for total loss anyway so hardly worth bothering to insure it really.
As pointed out though you should get insurance for about £70. Try Saga. You won't get anywhere by abusing call centre staff though.
