Well we need a 6 berth. The kids are 7,6,3 and1 so the side beds in most like the dandy 6 will be okay. How big are the central table beds as I am 6' 3" and my wife is 5' 11"?
There are a number to choose from, both Folding Campers and Trailer Tents. People will be more than happy to share their experiences with you.
Our son has a Pennine Sterling which is a 6 berth, his children are 13, 11, 6, 4 and 8months. Which of course makes 7 people in total!
The older two sleep in the extension off the awning, the two young ones sleep on the single beds (where you eat at the table, mum has toddler in double bed with her, which leaves son (6.1") the other double to himself!
They need the awning up regardless of how many nights they pitch.
Conversely, my hubby and I have a Pennine Pathfinder, again a 6 berth. Its a more comfortable for grandparents, and easier for us to erect as it has gas struts!
There are trailer tents available which would probably be more spacious.
Unless you have a caravan, everything has to be dry when packed, or packed and then erected immediately on return home so that it can dry, if you don't pack dry then mildew/mould attacks the canvas.
Don't leave the canvas packed away wet for any length of time, mildew spots are almost impossible to remove.
The dandy is completely different to the other folding campers. It uses insulated PVC instead of canvas making it warm in winter and cool in summer. Can also be packed away wet and left wet until next time you can use it. I've left mine for several months.
Also has a proper caravan style door and windows with many of the walls being solid.
The down side is they are not very well equipped. All have a cooker with rings and grille and a sink and drainer with cold water.
The high side destinys from 1995 on (light blue and white) have a built in fridge. The toilet (dark blue) destinys from 2003 on also have a washroom with cassette toilet and wash basin. Still only cold water though.
The dining table come bed is 4 foot wide.
Some from before about 1998 had an underfloor Riviera gas heater which was very good but possibly not so good with young children as they were hot.
Some now have a Propex blown air heating system either as original equipment or retro fitted.
We're a family of seven I personally would do a four birth with two under bed pods for older two and one and three year old on other double. Expect for in very hot summer your always going to need to put awning up for playing space with four kids
