Hi all
We have a Conway crusader 2009, the canvas on the roof has about a 3inch section where the stitching has come loose, we are in Cornwall and can't find anyone who can help repair.

Has anyone got any suggestions and do you know if it can be stitched without having the canvas removed?

Many thanks in advance.
Laura

Hi
Are there no sail makers around Cornwall.
If its just stiching they may be able to help.

Thanks Ray I think my husbands tried that but they need to take the whole canvas off, which we would like to avoid, thank you.

To stitch the canvas needs to run through a sewing machine, not possible if attached to trailer!

Penryn have, or used to have sailmakers.

You could by the sail makers palm and Needle.
Sew it yourself.
Used to do it in the Navy lol, and a few times since.

I'm surprised it can't be hand sewn with the right needle Sandra but thanks for the response.

Thanks Ray, I'd prefer if someone could just do that for me, that would be the ideal solution!

If it's the seam which has come unstitched then Ray is correct you can stitch with needle and strong thread using the existing holes, if ithe canvas is frayed and pulled then it may need patching, that would ideally need machine stitching.

We had stitching on a seam come loose. I stitched it whilst the canvas was in situ. It was quite easy to do as long as you use the stitch holes which have been already made. Use a large needle and strong waxed thread. A small piece of wood to push the needle through also helps.

Stitching come loose ? Are you sure, could be UV degradation in which case make time to remove it & have the whole roof restitched professionally.

Wouldn't have thought it would have been exposed enough for UV degradation on a canvas tent of that age......

I suspect it's just pulled slightly, you can normally remove the whole canvas on these type of things fairly easily, which in my opinion would be the best thing to do, send it away for a proper repair in the down season, or as above find someone locally.

I can see a botched in situ repair not lasting that well especially when you don't appear confident in doing so.

Thank you we have it booked in to have done on a machine, we love it too much to risk not doing it properly. Hopefully they will be able to tell if it's uv degradation when they repair it?

Thanks for taking the time to respond.

Hopefully it isn't. But you will find out when you take it off. Just pulling it about will do it.
Good move best not to mess about with a roof.
Hand stitching is all very good but how many people use the right thread ?
