Hello,
I'm looking at getting an old folding Conway challenger camper but to save space can you store these on their sides?

No, for some reason. We looked into this when we had a Challenger. I think I actually contacted the manufacturer. You can do it with trailer tents apparently but not folding campers.

Maybe the reason is because a folding camper has a built in fridge and cooker whereas a trailer tent doesn't so if the folding camper is tipped up on it's side then these appliances are likely to suffer unnecessary damage.

I did look at the link that you put on your last messafe and it took me to an old thread and a woman on there said she was able to remove the fridge as it only lifts out and gas bottle then she found in her instructions a rack made by penine you can buy, iv had a look around online but can't find instructions for the camper I'm looking at

You wouldn't be able to just lift out a fridge as it has to have a union nut at the rear for the LPG gas connection. If the fridge could immediately be removed then it was most likely a portable one that plugs into the mains electric but that still leaves the prospect of the grill pan and any other meat tins or frying pans in the main oven which would have to be removed before tipping up the camper.

Ours didn’t have a built in fridge.

Not sure I understand about the trailer tent not having fridge and/or cooler, the whole kitchen is attached to one end.

Anyway, the answer to the original question is still no.

I thought that the theory of a folding camper was designed to be a cross between a trailer tent and a caravan so you still have the lightweight trailer but with the luxuries of a caravan. That's why I assumed that all folding campers were identical in terms of having the basic luxuries of a built in fridge and cooker which goes to prove that's not the case. I have had owned 2 trailer tents in the past but never had a folding camper so my theory of a FC was wrong. My apologies folks.

What year is the Challenger. A 1980's/early 90's Challenger can be stored on its side. Take a look at the Conway Owners Club where you can find brochures.

Here's a 1999 brochure. Side storage brackets were available for the trailer tents but not the FCs.
