I was merrily about to book the week at the end of May for a bout of camping but was surprised to see that my chosen campsite, which is normally very good, has decided to increase tent pitch prices. £3 more per night than caravans.

I only have the car plus a 5 man tent (at a push) and there will only be two of us sleeping it.

Is this normal practice? It seems a bit unfair and I am surprised because the site has always seemed so welcoming for tenters?

There could be a couple of reasons for this that spring to mind:

1) They think that as you have no facilities in a tent you will use theirs more. This is rubbish as many caravanners don't use their bathrooms when on a site with good loos & showers.

2) Maybe they only allow caravanners to use breathable groundsheets so think they will have to do more work on the tent pitches, re-seeding the grass. This is rubbish because if it is wet & muddy the pitches that have had NGs on them will be in a right muddy mess & also need re-seeding.

Maybe they've just decided they don't want tents anymore & are trying to price themselves out of the market.

Why not ask them & see what they say?

If you can't see the light at the end of the tunnel, just keep going till you go round the bend.

As you've gone for the end of May no doubt they are cashing in on the Bank Holiday, although this doesnt answer why they have picked on tents. Make sure when you do find somewhere that you dont get hit with the min 3 nights booking !!.

Where those prices on a website? If so, I could only think it would be a mistake. Can't think anyone would pay £3 a night more for a tent pitch,  I'd usually expect to pay less than a caravan pitch.
