Hey all, happy new year!
I had an unfortunate incident of losing all 4 wheel bolts on the left on my last adventure out (probable sabotage), and was able to limp the short distance home by borrowing 2 bolts from the right.
I've checked the remaining bolts so I can purchase some replacements and measured them as 19mm head, 10mm bolt with a 1mm pitch.
Having searched briefly, I can't seem to find wheel bolts to that spec. Can anyone else confirm the correct spec please, or a suitable spec maybe? Thanks all!
Hopefully not too late to add info to this enquiry.
Wheel bolts need to have the correct 'seat' to match the wheel, so it's more than just matching the thread! They also need to be of the correct tensile strength.
Wheel bolts usually have a conical 'seat' that is absolutely critical to the correct location of wheel onto the hub, but the cone angles are not universal and are specific to a particular wheel. The tensile strength is critical in ensuring the bolts do not elongate under load and allow the wheel to become loose and possibly come completely adrift!
I would most strongly advise you to contact the UK distributor of Raclet products for their advice on obtaining correct replacement parts, failing them, contact directly Raclet in France. The bolts may well be common to other vehicles/trailers and available from other sources, but you need the FULL specification to purchase the correct ones!
Having potentially overloaded your existing bolts by only using two on each wheel, I'd be very inclined to replace them with new bolts as well. Any flaws in the bolts would most likely be unseen to the naked eye, but faults could propagate in use until catastrophic failure occurs! On a car wheel, you tend to feel and hear if a wheel is coming loose, on a trailer you rarely get any warnings until the wheel comes off and things have gone horribly wrong! - I know several people who have lost wheels from trailers, they didn't enjoy the experience, they needed recovery from the roadside, repairs needed were extensive, and they are now near paranoid about checking all is well before towing!
