Hi ...Im not sure if this message is in the right place? So my apologies if it isn't...Last year we got a trigano olympe and due to lockdown we didn't actually get to use it. But we had a go putting it up in the garden. Now all went pretty well considering it was our first go at it.

One really tricky part that Im hoping someone might have a solution for. The pole/bar that connects across the back ceiling of the seated area between the bedrooms... so it kind of joins the pram hood section (jeez I hope this makes sense) is REALLY hard to fix in place , now looking inside it if I remember rightly I think there is a spring of some sort. The DH recons we should WD40 it , then I read its not a good idea to put WD near the canvas ? After much tugging and pulling and pushing we got it in place and then same palaver getting it back out. I think this part too us as long as everything else put together.

Also if anyone has any thoughts on whether we should look for hard standing instead of grass pitch Id be very grateful for any and all advice. Im thinking it will be easier to get set up on hard standing? But might need really heavy duty pegs?

Heres hoping we all get to head off on adventures this year (and a bit of sun would be nice too!)

I dont have one of these but have joined poles etc many times.

It is vital to ensure the poles are correctly lined up and there is no bending force on them in any way. If there is it will create friction on the poles and stop them sliding.

My sailing dinghy has a 2 piece mast which slides apart. The guy I bought it from had had it for 20 years and said it was stuck solid since he got it. I just held the 2 parts and slid them apart. I've separated them many times since with no trouble.

A bit late to this post but we have an Olympe an know the pole you mean. What do you mean hard? Hard to slot the pole together off the trailer or hard to install when trying to join the two sides?

We normally fold the pole out and joint it off the frame then we insert it on one side. The line it up on the other side and lift up the out pole at an angle to match the the pole and it goes in fine.

The most critical part of putting the tent up is pulling it over the pram top, especially when it’s windy. This is the most likely time you are going to bend a pole. Using two people one on each side. Grab the pole as high up as you can with one hand and with the other grab a chunk of canvas. Then the two of you pull together keeping it parallel. Once over get the little uns to hold a corner or guy it out just to stop the wind catching it.

Once the tent is up it is incredibly durable to the elements. You are more likely to give up on it that it on you. We have withstood may a major gale where others have lost the lot.

We’ve use both grass and hard standing. I prefer grass cos it’s easy to peg out If the weather is bad. The danger with hard standing is piercing the ZIG with the gravel underneath. We have a purpose cut tarp between the ground and ZIG that if the ground is muddy you can pack the tarp up separately saving getting the tent to dirty.
