found them thanks. seems like the sides need reinforcing, would steel plates on in side work i wonder

They will put quite a large force on the beds. They basically lift the bed about a foot from the hinge so that is a lot of force.

I'm afraid I dont know about the Pennines. We had a Riva Dandy with substantial heavy steel bed frames with gas struts and that was fine. Being heavy (steel) it needed the struts.

Older versions had aluminium bed frames and some of those broke with gas struts. Being lighter (aluminium) 'I don't think it really needed struts.
