Hi all not sure if this is the correct forum to post this in but on my search for a new trailer tent have come up with these fabrics on the models i have been looking at and would like some views of the experienced campers on the quality on what they think is the better of the two Canvas or TenCate
Hi I noticed on the TRIGANO I looked at it just says canvas and on the RACLET it says 100 cotton with a logo that says TenCate wanted to know if it was something different as on the TenCate web site it says
(it is made from 100% cotton. breathable, water-repellent, mildew and mould resistant and has moisture regulation ability)
and the tents I have had have always been polyester I thought the canvas was not mildew and mould resistant so any thoughts on this would be very helpful
going back a few years CGI (otherwise known as Cabanon) and Tencate Dutch canvas company were the two top manufacturers of canvas and many a debate has taken place on just which was the best now Im not sure but I don't believe Cabanon exists as an independent company might be wrong.Tencate still producing canvas and the more modern polycotton mixes.
"Karsten camping tents are made with high-quality Ten Cate tent canvas, made of 100% cotton. This material is highly breathable and has excellent moisture-regulating abilities. This keeps the climate inside the tent pleasant. What's more, it is highly weather-proof.
Composition of the tent canvas:
The canvas: High-quality Ten Cate KD48 tent canvas. Warp and weft from twisted (double) yarns, 100% of carefully selected high-quality cotton with excellent breathability.
Weight: app. 310 gr/m2
Tensile strength warp: At least 120 kg/5 cm
Weft: At least 100 kg/5 cm
Hydrostatic head: At least 40 cm
Colours: Dyed with special dyes which have shown optimum resistance to discolouring.
After-treatment: In order to maximise resistance to rot and mould, the tent canvas is appropriately water-proofed."
Now, I don't claim to understand any of that. I've no idea whether that means my tent is absolutely fantastic or rubbish, but I do know that it is absolutely fantastic!
I've no idea how that compares with any other form/brand of cotton canvas, or any other tents on the market.
To paraphrase the late great former manager of my local football team... "I wouldn't say my tent is the best tent on the market, but it's in the top one"!

I just checked the spec of my old and last tent, namely the ESVO Bedouin 340, and the outer tent is made of 340gr/m2 cotton canvas.
