Hi all i have just purchased a 2020 Raclet Quickstop SE New Folding Camper and i have to purchase a wheel clamp,
When i look on-line the choice and the price is from £30.00 to £200 can you help me with the sort of clamp i should look at buying
I'm assuming you bought from a dealer, what do they suggest?
------------- XVI yes?
As well is two words!
How does a sage know everything about everything? or does he? or does he just think he does?
Remember, if you buy something you bought it, not brought it.
Firstly, check with your insurer, they may either insist on a certain type of security device and/or offer a premium discount on certain approved products.
Secondly choose a verified and approved security device, meeting either Sold Secure or Thatcham standards.
Thirdly find a device that physically will fit you unit, not all devices are universal! They sometimes come in different sizes to say match a wheel diameter or alloy/steel wheels, or a particular model of tow hitch.
ALL security devices can be overcome, it's only time and persistence of the thief that determines effectiveness, unfortunately most devices can be cut off in minutes at the most by well equipped knowledgeable thieves! Your objective with security devices is, 1) satisfy your insurer, 2) cause as much inconvenience to a potential thief so that they expose themselves to being caught in the act, or they go look for easier targets! Multiple security devices, eg wheel lock and hitch lock, obviously increase the inconvenience to a thief!
Some devices are awkward to fit, others are considerably easier, check how easy to fit, AND how easy to stow when not in use, some are big and awkward shapes and without convenient stowage bags/cases included!
Can't actually advise you on a specific device, as outlined above, a number of variables to consider. But needless to say, the worthwhile stuff tends to be the more expensive end of the price range! Some of the really cheap stuff you could almost tear off with your bare hands, or at least the simplest of tools, and literally in seconds!
With wheel clamps, ensure that they protect wheel nuts (to stop wheel removal) as well as prevent wheel rotation, otherwise they can simply swap the wheel for one without a clamp on!
