If in doubt, follow the trailer manufacturers advice, it's in the user manual: http://www.blueskyholdings.co.uk/binder-handbook-2001%20(7).pdf

145/80 r10 tyres: 32PSI Minimum (cold).

36PSI would do little harm (so long as not exceeding Max PSI rating of tyre - marked on sidewall), theoretically only make the ride a little harsher, and slight increase wear on centre of tyre, but as trailer tyres inevitably need changing on age deterioration (every 5 years or absolute max of 7 years!) rather than significant tread wear, that's no real concern either.

Tyres tend to get hot/overheat when underinflated, caused by excessive flexing of sidewalls.

Some of the Pennine recommended tyre pressures seem to be unrealistic.
For example the tyre pressure for a Pathfinder according to the hand book is between 50 and 60 PSI I dont remmember ever seeing a tyre that can be inflated to 60 PSI.

Plenty of tyres that can be inflated to and way beyond 60PSI. My caravan runs at 59PSI, the higher spec versions run at 65PSI! That is cold temp figures, when running and warmed up, those figures will rise by 4-6PSI. All perfectly legit and safe.

The correct and permitted max tyre pressures depends on tyre construction (load index, plys etc.) and the load they carry. Far from manufacturers figures being 'unrealistic', they are carefully calculated against original spec tyres and factory spec trailer loads. That's why its important to only replace tyres with ones that match or exceed original FULL specifications, it's not just about what fits the rims size wise!

If you want to see just how high some tyres go, look here at one of the most respected trailer manufacturers figures: https://www.westwoodtrailers.com/new-trailers/Tyre-Pressures.pdf

The original tyre fitted to my Pathfinder were Hanook from memory the max pressure on sidewalls was 45PSI the hand book stated a pressure of 60 PSI I inflated them to 45PSI . Like you say its all very carefully calculated.
