Hi, it seems impossible to buy a fresh one, anyone know what we should get as an alternative that will be compatible with the fixings/connections we have on our Crusader
As well is two words!
How does a sage know everything about everything? or does he? or does he just think he does?
Remember, if you buy something you bought it, not brought it.

The small Calor Gas propane was 3.9kg not 4.5kg, but as you say impossible to find now, they have discontinued it.
Go for the Flogas propane version, or change the regulator and get a Flogas butane 4.5kg one.
OK, merrilegs you've got at least me confused here!
Calor used to do a 4.5Kg BUTANE (Blue cylinder), or a 3.9Kg PROPANE (Red cylinder), they have both been discontinued since Jan 2023, and save any old stock in distributors, you will NEVER find a refill! ..... But no 4.5Kg PROPANE (think they may have done one many many years ago, but not for a very long time)!!!!
I believe there may be 4.5kg Propane cylinders from some of the continental suppliers, but you will never get a refill in UK, only in the country of origin!
The solution to the Calor issue is either go to a larger cylinder, next one up is 6kg Propane, which whilst continuing in production is often hard to find because of production/distribution issues which Calor have had over past few years!
Many people who have gas locker size restrictions and can't accomodate a 6Kg cylinder are going over to FloGas 3.9Kg Propane/4.5Kg Butane clinders or even the 5kg Gaslight cylinders.
But be warned, the cylinders are NOT the same dimensions as Calor's similar capacity ones, so check they will fit your locker INCLUDING the diameter of the well that the cylinder sits in! Dimensions on Flogas web site.
Probably NOT wise to follow Calor's advice to use a Campingaz 907 if you really need a small dimension cylinder, they are BUTANE so only suitable for summer use, and only 2.76Kg capacity, BUT astronomically expensive compared to every other form of bottled gas on a £s per Kg of gas basis!!!!!
As to hose coupling compatibility, the alternative cylinders have a variety of couplings depending on the cylinder you choose and may require changing, but if your gas hose is more than or approaching 5 years old it is due for a change anyway, and a new hose is only a few pounds, so not the end of the world and a good safety measure.
Unless things have changed drastically in the last few days I don't think either Calor or Flogas are doing fresh contracts at the moment. You should be able to swap for a different size bottle if they can fit your locker.
Have a look for an empty bottle on the likes of eBay etc then simply exchange it for a full one.

Correct re Calor as mentioned above. Flogas are fine though, at least in my experience - I've just got a new one / contract from them.
Thank you for the info everyone, we will check locker size. We would need to buy our first Flogas bottle, is this what you are calling a new contract. What do we do with our obsolete butane and propane bottles?
Before paying £50+ deposit for a Flogas cylinder - it's worth checking sites like Gumtree or Freecycle.............I picked up an almost full 10kg Flogas for £30 last year.

Yes, sorry, new contract - I just meant deposit on a first / new bottle to me.
You could try selling / giving away the empty bottles on your chosen platform (Facebook marketplace or wherever) or you can take them to a household tip.

Yes, BUT really worth searching ebay, FB marketplace, gumtree etc. for a s/h one at MUCH reduced cost rather than paying contract fee! You don't need any paperwork to get a refill, just a suitable exchange cylinder.
I got a selection of Flogas cylinders off Freegle at no cost at all! I only really wanted the Gaslight one but had to take the lot, some had a little gas in, so will do for BBQ etc. before selling on.
Thanks to Calor really messing up the market for all, be aware that due to high demand Flogas were only doing like for like refill replacements, rather than their standard mix and match 'group' refills as is normal practice, worth checking if that policy is still in place before getting a cylinder in the group and expecting to exchange it for the different one you really want!
I've gone for the Campingaz 907, however the gas price is horrendous.
Has anyone tried putting a Calor 5Kg patiogas cylinder in their pathfinder/crusader? From what I can tell from the measurements on the Calor website, they should fit.
Even taking into account the propane vs butane prices, Patiogas is still way cheaper than the Campingaz.
Extremely cost prohibitive.
If you don't use your gas a lot it's financially not worth, as has been clarified by a number of members on here.
The ordinary user can make a 6kg bottle last years.
------------- XVI yes?

I'd NEVER live long enough to benefit from a Safefill or the like! - even if a MUCH younger man, not sure I'd EVER reap any benefit from a Safefill with my usage!
6 years of caravan use and I'm only just starting on my second 6Kg Calor cylinder (well actually a 5kg Flogas Gaslight this time, and old Calor is not entirely empty yet!), AND I do use the cooker every day of every stay! AND I've used the van off grid a couple of times on gas for heating water and cooking for a few days stay each time. I do mostly use the electric hob and microwave when on EHU rather than gas for cooking whenever possible though!
Running off a Campingaz 907 though, think that situation may be different!!!!!! - there is no more expensive way of purchasing gas, AND it has the disadvantage of being Butane, so summertime use only as well! Getting on for 3 times more expensive per Kg than the smallest alternative Flowgas Propane 3.9Kg cylinder!
Used Campingaz way back in my early tenting days (moved over to a Calor 3.9Kg in latter years), might consider it again for continental use (buying at much reduced prices abroad - I've got several cylinders I could refill), but never for UK use at their extreme rip off pricing even with my minimal usage!
